Happy Clipse Day to all who celebrate except one Pharrell Williams. I don’t disagree with Pusha and Malice often— I find that herbs should be slapped and capitalism has always been cruel. I think rap should be constant lyrical violence though outing someone’s baby felt a little too TMZ for me but the boy deserved it. As a man who is the same height as me Pusha sometimes sounds like me at most unhinged. Let’s not forget I was a kid who worshipped Pablo Escobar—and I’ll argue…nvm!!!!
I haven’t played the album yet because I was too busy watching the cinematic masterpiece that is Spectre and spending the night listening to every Bond theme song available on the swiss streamer. (There are almost NO misses! Adele and Garbage are GOAT but Sheryl Crow did her fucking THING!!) I know the beats are insane because Pusha demands the best when he in the studio with these people. And we know Malice ain’t there for a goddamn ki. But Pusha also loves Pharrell like a brother from another so now I gotta listen to ya’ll pretend like Pharrell never needed Chad and I’m stop you right the fuck there.
I don’t care if Pharrell make a human nature type beat every year for the rest of his life that nigga’s lore has died in my eyes. Your best friend had to sue you, Kelis for sure ain’t lying and this absolutely never ending Louis Vuitton nonsense. If you know all my critiques of Virgil then you know its madness that I’m saying “Pharrell ain’t no fucking Virgil” every time I see a new collection. We just spent a few years realizing that nigga ain’t no wiser than anybody and I’m not going back for the sake of *checks notes* Virginia. PLEASE! I’m just sick of that little turtle head ass nigga. I’m tired of us pretending he’s Buddha or Gandhi when he’s just a round head zionist with a soft voice and a good ear.
The man has talent but he’s an asshole by all reports and honestly ever since the “we are above racism here are my Human Race sneakers” I’ve been like please just press the buttons Donatello. Oh you love Pharrell? Name his worst Louis print! I love Pharrell for his music. But the last decade has revealed that nigga is a capitalist sucker. It’s not hard for me to love someone’s talent and not care for the way they live their life: see me and my ever present love for Jay (DASH) Z songs. But you’re not gonna slip me nerd potion with my coke rap.
Respect to the Clipse for knowing what works for them. I’d argue they’ve done a stellar job of reminding us why Pharrell is even famous in the first place because that lore was getting weird. Man is not a cultural resetter—he’s a big part of what is already the coolest culture out. And he knows it too. Respect for the evolution of the bleep bloops and that immaculate and eternal four count but the rest of that water ain’t goin in this well. He be aight. That man literally don’t need anything let alone to be worshipped like he wasn’t in a DUO. *sucks teeth* FOH!
